Scrum Trainer Spotlight: Brian Hackerson On Using Agile Principles in Uncommon Ways

Brian Hackerson, Scrum Inc. Scrum Trainer™, Head Agile Coach at 3M, and co-creator of Agile Best Self.Brian Hackerson is a Scrum Inc. Scrum Trainer™, Head Agile Coach at 3M, and co-creator of Agile Best Self. As a former functional manager turned Agile coach, Brian understands well that Agility is a journey, and has applied that journey inward, asking “Who are we as Agilists?” and “What do we want to become?”. His work embraces the fact that becoming better teammates, employees, leaders, and members of our communities, starts with becoming better ourselves.

This month, we are highlighting Brian for his relentless commitment to continuous improvement and making a positive impact on the world. “Applying the Agile Perspective to the self is about prioritizing being more rather than doing more,” explains Brian, “this has a greater impact on the planet.”

Agile Best Self adapts principles of Agility to help individuals focus on the often difficult, internal work that each of us needs to do to become better versions of ourselves.

Yet, Agile Best Self is not about prescriptive recipes for self-improvement; rather, like the 12 Agile Principles, the Best Self Principles should be balanced and prioritized against one another based on the current situation.

In a time of increased burnout and growing focus on mental well-being in the workplace, it’s more important than ever that we develop the discipline and commitment to caring for ourselves so that we can care for others.

To Brian and all of the other Scrum Inc. Scrum Trainers™ around the world who embody the Scrum Values and work hard every day to make a lasting, positive impact on the world of work and beyond, we thank you!
